Guidelines For Shabbat Meals At Repairers Of The Breach we value community. As such, we request that everyone contribute to the community meals (onegs). |
![]() Please bring one
main dish and a
drink, desert or salad to all community Shabbat and festival meals.
We follow the biblical guidelines found in Leviticus 11.
Please make sure you check ingredients for possible fish and shell-fish contaminants. On many occasions manufacturer's products are made on equipment shared with fish and shell-fish. Since there are many varieties of fish, and not all are kosher please make sure that you do not bring any items that have been made on shared equipment. Please make sure that cheese products are made with non-animal enzymes or microbial rennet. Many cheeses use animal rennet. We prefer not to have cheeses that contain the animal by-product at our community meals. If you want to bring sausages please make sure that they do not contain pork in the ingredients, and that they are not in pork casings. Please bring poultry and meat dishes that are free-range or organic. Fish products using wild-caught fish is preferred. We try to maintain a kosher lifestyle and a healthy one as well. With all the recent headlines regarding animal treatment in meat slaughter houses we prefer to make sure we are eating healthier meats. ![]() WINE At Repairers Of The Breach we drink wine with Kiddush. If you prefer not to drink wine, please bring grape juice so you can join us in a traditional blessing over wine and grape juice before meals. If you bring wines, please make sure that the wine(s) you bring is either kosher or vegetarian approved. Many wine manufacturers use proteineous substances in the fining process of their wines. Such proteineious substances may include animal gelatin, egg albumin, fish bladders, etc To find out if your
wine is
fined with any animal or fish substances you can type the name of your
wine into the search tool on this Vegan
wine site.
